DCSS Christmas Message

12 Jan 07

Please find below a Christmas message from Dick & Janet:

What a year! What fantastic staff! What achievements!

We started our events work in February with St Patrick's Day and Janet is coming home today (15 December) after the naming of the Queen Victoria, the new Cunard cruise ship.

In-between we have managed to staff over 60 shows, some small & some very very large!

The weather this summer has not helped - We've been rained on so many times! Thus some of the shows have taken a long time to clear, this has then affected the next show. Quite often We've been required to use agency staff which has given us problems.

Whilst thanking all of you that have worked for us this year, can I please remind you that we have had some problems at times recruiting staff for the shows where we provide litter & recycling services. Please do tell all you know about the job opportunities with DCSS!

We've started to look at next year's events, we feel that we can only successfully manage 2 events per weekend - with any more on the go we become too stretched and do not fulfil our potential. This will mean that in 2008 DCSS will be staffing around 30 shows.

Our thanks go to Mark & Rob from Hotbox Studios for all the work they've put into developing our new recruitment scheme (PAAM). There will be further improvements to the way we work with PAAM for 2008, although please remember that the information you provide needs to be accurate and up to date. Too many times We've sent e-mails to staff regarding work at an event only to see the email bounce back, or hear from people that they've changed their minds about working at the event & haven't updated their profiles.

Also thanks to Jo & Tavis who started working with DCSS this year. Jo & Tavis proved themselves invaluable when we were at our busiest this season - chasing staff for events and dealing with all the thousands of queries we receive. When the Carling Weekend approached Jo & Tavis phoned everyone listed to work at Reading & Leeds - this really shouldn't have been required as everyone was advised that they'd been confirmed to work at the events. The problem we experienced here was that confirmations were not received back from many people which required us to hunt for crew at the last minute.

Please treat PAAM with the respect & tenderness she deserves...

Probably covered most of the moans & groans (I'm a moaning ol' git) but I daresay that we can find some new ones for next year.

Anyway orf you jolly well go (Jimmy Young if you know who he is) and have a super Christmas & New Year. Just remember - the drinks that your friends buy you always taste better than the drinks that you buy them.

Thanks & hope to see you next year.

Dick & Janet

P.S. don't forget to keep your eye's peeled for the new website - it should be online by the beginning of February! If you've got any suggestions please send us a message or pop into the forum and leave a post here.
